Outcome

Through this event, we served over 800 community members and engaged more than 50 students and staff as active participants. In total, we raised $700 to donate to Altadena Girls and, more importantly, helped restore the sense of unity and joy that was lost in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire. The volleyball tournament was filled with laughter, energy, and a strong sense of teamwork. Students and staff came together not just to compete but to connect, cheering each other on, celebrating every point, and creating lasting memories. The event reminded us of the power of joy and collaboration in healing and rebuilding our community.

Civic Engagement Efforts:

With this event as well as our donation drive, we were able to contribute to civic engagement through service. Through the fire relief donation drives, our members graciously volunteered to be a helping hand in supporting our community. Furthermore, both the event and the donation drives were open to everyone, giving all members of our community the opportunity to get involved, show support, and stand in solidarity with those affected by the fire. By partnering with Pasadena High School, our project extended beyond the walls of Marshall Fundamental, fostering collaboration between schools and expanding our impact across a broader community.

Reflection

Looking back, the most surprising part of our journey was how quickly our focus shifted after the Eaton Fire. What began as a project centered on children's health turned into a deeply community-driven effort to bring healing and unity through action. If we could do it all over again, we might have built in more flexibility from the start, allowing us to adapt more smoothly to unexpected challenges. Still, we’re proud of how we came together to meet the moment. This project taught us the true meaning of resilience, leadership, and the power of youth-led impact.
